He was born Anthony Dominick Benedetto and he changed his making it short Tony Bennett. His father was ailing and unable to work that’s why he and his family were passing their life under the line of Poverty. He was a lover of art and literature that’s why his father sent him to New York’s School of Industrial Art.
His father was waiting for his last breathe and when Tony was 10 he passed away. It was a huge loss in his life. Growing up in depression isn’t an easy barrier to cross. But he overcomes it and started a new life. He grew up listening to legendary American Singers such as AI Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Judy Garland. He performed with his uncle at the opening of Triborough Bridge. His uncle was professionally a tap dancer. But he started singing for money from the age of 13. He got a successful engagement with Paramus New Jersey, a nightclub where he was taken to sing and at that time ha had dropped out of school. He was 16 then.Â
During the final stages of World War II, he was drafted in November 1944 in US army in Blood and fire division which currently known as 63rd Infantry Division. He served in France and Germany there. And came back in 1946. His first hit song came up in the year 1952. The song and album’s title was “Because of You“. From this song, he didn’t have to look back again. He was close to his goal. Since then, he has given us numerous of hit songs like I Left My Heart in San Francisco, The Lady is a Tramp, But Beautiful, Fly me to the Moon, The Way You Look Tonight and many more. He also recieved 20 Garmy Awards and 2 Primetime Emmy Awards and some other Honors.
