Dinesh Karthik was born on 1 June 1985 in Chennai, Tamil Naddu, India. He was born to Krishnakumar and Padma in a Telugu family. He lived for two years in Kuwait where his father used to work and studied there in Indian Public School, Salmiya, Kuwait. Later returned to India and continued study from eighth standard from Don Bosco School, Chennai. There his cricketing journey started. His family was not happy for his cricketing career at start but his father praised him as he was also a domestic cricketer. His father helped him in practice.
He was part of Under 14 team of Tamil Nadu in 1999 and got selected for U-19 team too. He was selected for India Squad in 2004 Under-19 cricket World Cup in Bangladesh. He made his international debut in 2006 in an ODI match at Lords against England. He had up and down in is long career where he was not getting more chances. He was thought as replacements. He used to get some matches and again replaced by others. But he continued his domestic career that made him not to leave cricket.Â
His T20I debut was on December 1, 2006 against South Africa and Test debut in November 3, 2004. He replaced Parthiv Patel in his debut match. He didn’t have great match for batting but did great keeping although with variable bounce in pitch. He was also part of 2004’s Champions Trophy but later got replaced by Dhoni in ODI team. He didn’t gave better batting during start in Test format and was questioned for loosing form.
He has played from opening to number 7. Later, he continued domestic cricket. He scored 150+ in both innings of Duleep Trophy final in 2009. His finishing is always great and his last ball six will be forever remembered in Nidahas Trophy. India needed 5 runs of last ball in Nidahas Tri-Series final and scored an unbelivable six in last ball and snatched victory.
He also captained Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL for 2 years and did good batting and captaincy. But career turning season was this years IPL 2022. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore where he won every fans heart for his unexpected finishing throughout the season helping RCB in difficult times.
