Stokes is a left-handed middle-order batsman as well as a right-arm fast bowler. At number six, he holds the global record for most runs in an innings with 258 against South Africa. Following Joe Root’s departure on April 28, 2022, Stokes was named England’s men’s Test captain.

Life History/Career Path of Ben Stokes
Stokes was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, on June 4, 1991, to the late Gerard Stokes, sometimes known as ‘Ged Stokes,’ and an English mother with English and Mori ancestry. After his father was named head coach of Workington Town rugby league club, he relocated to England at the age of 12. He attended Cockermouth School and played cricket for Cockermouth Cricket Club while growing up in the little West Cumbrian town of Cockermouth.
Stokes made his Durham first-class debut against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). He scored a half-century and took one wicket in that match. On May 13, 2010, he scored his first-class century against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. In August 2011, Stokes made his senior England debut in a One Day International (ODI) against Ireland.Â
Stokes was picked to England’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April. He hit 84* in the final against New Zealand, including two sixes in the penultimate over (one traditional and the other owing to overthrows after a ball ricochet off Stokes’ bat to the boundary), tying the game. He then batted with Jos Buttler in the super over, which ended in a tie, but England won the match due to the boundary countback rule that was in use at the time. He was chosen man of the match for the second time in the competition for this effort.
At the 2019 ICC Awards, he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year and ICC Player of the Year. Following Joe Root’s departure on April 28, 2022, Stokes was named England’s men’s Test captain. On October 14, 2017, he married Clare Ratcliffe in East Brent, Somerset. Layton Stokes and Libby Stokes are the couple’s two children.
