In Bengali films, he had also achieved great box office success. Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi, Naya Kadam, Masterji, and other film soundtracks made him famous in the 1980s and 1990s. Though he was most known for his disco-style compositions, in which he fused Indian music with worldwide sounds and youthful energetic rhythms, he was also noted for his orchestration and fusion of Indian music with international sounds. His tunes were mostly written for discotheques and dance numbers. He had his first break in West Bengal cinema with Daadu (1974), in which he had Late Lata Mangeshkar perform his composition.

For the 1985 film Aitbaar, he created music for two ghazals, “Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezaar Aaj Bhi Hai” and “Aawaz Di Hai.” In the 1980s, he also composed melodic songs sung by Kishore Kumar in films starring Rajesh Khanna, either as duets with Asha Bhosle or Lata Mangeshkar.
